Six dead in US helicopter crash, prominent Nigerian bank director among victims | Abroad

The helicopter with six people on board crashed on Friday around 10 p.m. local time (7 a.m. in the Netherlands) near Nipton, on the edge of the Mojave Desert. The plane was on its way to Las Vegas.

Among the dead is the CEO of one of Nigeria’s largest banks, Access Bank Group. Herbert Wigwe died, as did his wife and son, World Trade Organization (WTO) director Ngozi Okonjo-Iwela announced via X. She also reported that the former chairman of the Nigerian stock exchange Abimbola Ogunbanjo did not survive the crash.

According to the FAA, it is a Eurocopter EC 130 aircraft. The aviation authority and the transport safety organization National Transportation Safety Board are investigating the crash.
