Six dead in dramatic fire in Huy: couple and four daughters died | Domestic

A raging house fire took a heavy toll last night in Huy, a city in the province of Liège. The fire brigade removed six dead people from the burning house. It concerns a married couple and their four daughters. The girls are between 5 and 14 years old.

The Hesbaye Meuse Condroz (Hemeco) fire zone was called to a major fire in the center of Huy on Tuesday evening at 11:52 p.m. Four minutes later, a fire officer determined that it was a family home on rue des Crépalles. When the emergency services arrived, the entire house was already on fire. Flames were shooting out of all windows, from the ground floor to the top floor.

“During the extinguishing work, we removed one victim after another from the building,” explains a firefighter. “It turned out to be an entire family. A couple and their four children.”

The children are between 4 and 14 years old. “It was a loving family. The parents did everything for their children,” a neighbor told ‘Sudinfo’ in tears. “It’s dramatic.” According to ‘l’Avenir’, the couple had four daughters: Tatiana (5), Olivia (8), Natacha (10) and Mélissa (14).

Cause still unknown

The fire brigade finished the work shortly before 5.30 am. The Liège public prosecutor’s office sent an expert to the scene of the tragedy on Wednesday morning to make the necessary findings. The cause of the fire is not yet known.

Huy Mayor Eric Dosogne calls the fire a true tragedy. “Our thoughts are with the victims,” he reports. The fire also caused a major power outage in the area. According to news channel RTL, this affects hundreds of homes.
