“Agents have found at least 15 victims of the shooting, including six who have died,” Sacramento Police said on Twitter. The security services called for avoidance of the affected area in the city center.
The shooting was near the Capitol, California’s statehouse. There are also many restaurants and cafes in the neighborhood, local newspaper ‘The Sacramento Bee’ writes. According to local media, the shooting started during a brawl at a bar in the center of town. Shots were heard about 2 a.m. Video footage on social media showed people panicking on the street.
In late February, there was a shooting at a church in a suburb of Sacramento. A man shot and killed four people, including three of his children, before committing suicide.
Gun violence has increased dramatically in many places in the US since 2020. More than 4,300 people have been killed by deliberate gun violence in the US this year, not counting suicides, according to gunviolencearchive.org statistics. In 2022 there have already been 117 major shootings, ‘mass shootings’, in which at least four people were killed without counting the perpetrator(s).
