The bodies were discovered “during an aerial search,” Akwesasne local police said in a brief statement on Facebook. “The first body was located around 5 pm (local time)” in Akwesasne, it was said.
An investigation has been launched. Autopsies and toxicological analyzes are being performed to determine the cause of death, among other things.
Akwesasne police and the Coast Guard continued their search for victims on Friday. Close air support has also been requested from the Quebec and Ontario Provincial Police.
