“THE will follow him, follow him wherever he may go… »: many are still humming the most famous song of Sister Actthe musical released in 1992 (in Italy as Sister Act: A nut in a nun’s dress) and then followed the following year by a second chapter (in Italy Sister Act 2 – Crazier than ever). The two films consolidated the career of Whoopi Goldberg after the Oscar for Ghost won in 1989 with a role more than congenial to the comic talent of the actress, that of Sister Maria Claretta.
As always for the great hits, but without ever arriving at a true hypothesis, of a Sister Act 3 there has always been talk (the latest news dates back to 2020, with the director already confirmed). However, once the pandemic has been overcome, now the confirmation of a third sequel seems definitive, with Whoopi herself reassuring fans of a new adventure of the singer from Reno who disguises herself as a sober nun to escape the underworld. Reassure why the news – arrived a few months ago – of a possible TV series without Goldberg as a star he had sparked the protests.
The meeting between Whoopi and Jenifer
Whoopi communicated availability to take on the role of Deloris during a recent episode of The View, talk of which she is one of the presenters. The argument arose because one of the guests on the talk show was Jenifer Lewis, aka friend and work colleague Michelle (both in Sister Act both in Sister Act 2) in as a member of the trio Ronelles (parody of Ronettes), of which Deloris was frontwoman. “You know we’re going to do that movie,” Goldberg told her former co-star, “I’m looking forward to working with you again.”

Once upon a time there was a cult
The comedy – directed by Emile Ardolino, director of Dirty Dancing – Forbidden dances passed away in 1993 – follows the (mis) adventures of Deloris Wilsonaka Deloris Var Cartier, performer at her lover’s casino in Reno, a dangerous gangster of Italian originWitness to a murder, in order to arrive alive at the trial in which she will have to report her companion, she is disguised as a nun and sent to a convent. Her arrival will upset the sober and reserved lives of a small group of elderly and severe nuns who, underneath her, they want nothing more than the vitality of Deloris to shake their boring lives.

A suffered production
The third chapter of the franchise was announced in 2020when the House of Mickey Mouse tried to enrich the Disney + streaming library. In 2021, the director, Tim Federle, also arrivedand the screenwriter, Madhuri Shekar.
But then no further development updates emerged, until the Goldeberg-Lewis meeting. That she said she was very ready to shoot the sequel in the pipeline for Disney +, and that she revealed that she was the one who taught Goldberg to sing on the set of the film.
The production originally thought about voicing the segments sung by Goldberg’s character, however, Lewis convinced Whoopi to stand in front of the mirror with a brush instead of a microphone to rehearse. He taught her to sing with the spirit of a fifteen-year-old girl who performs in front of the mirror, as he remembers in the video we proposed above.
