C.on the grand finale of Sissi, broadcast tonight on Channel 5 at 9.30pm, the curtain falls on the German miniseries directed by Sven Bohse. We’ll miss him? Yup.
We are reassured by the fact that one has been confirmed second season, always (hopefully) with Dominique Devenport – actress who gave the Empress a fragile and indomitable portrait, confirming the power of its status as an icon. And of a female figure that the time did not know how to understand it, nor to accept it completely the restless personality.
So here’s what happens in the last two episodes.
Sissi, the previews of the last episode
[Intanto dove eravamo rimasti]. Helped by Fanny (Paula Kober), Sissi gives birth to a beautiful baby girl, Sophie, finally savoring the joys of motherhood. But during the church baptism a stranger stabs Francesco Giuseppe (Jannik Schümann). Fortunately the Count Grunne (David Korbmann) quickly intervenes by preventing the killer from delivering another blow, this time deadly.
Survived the attack, to suppress the bloody insurrections that broke out against the Habsburgs in Lombardy-Veneto Francis leaves for Italy. Will he be able to return unscathed e to mock fate once again?
Meanwhile, Sissi takes care of the injured returned from the front to a military hospital, in Laxenburg. Among these, forced to amputate an arm, there is also the Count Grunne, the one who started the investigations to discover the principal to the life of the kaiser, finally manages to find him. He is a Hungarian, and the description leaves no more doubts. It is about Lajos (Yasmani Stambader).
More and more alone, Sissi proposes to Fanny to return to live at court. The former courtesan accepts, but first – including that Lajos is now cornered – she runs to him to tell him to run away.
Empress of hearts and political strategist
Informed that the Austrian army appears destined for defeat and fearing that Hungary may plan a new insurrection, Sissi reaches Francesco Giuseppe to deliver a letter from the Count Andrassy (Giovanni Funiati).
Despite the advice of his wife, the Emperor does not want to give up, or bow to a negotiation and, once he learns of the new pregnancy of Sissi, accuses her of expecting a child since With you.
Overcome the tensions, the Kaiser finally decides to trust his wife’s instincts. Sissi also manages to convince him to meet the Count Andrassy, during a reception in Budapest, and to negotiate a peace treaty without having to resort to weapons.
In this way Sissi becomes the architect of the compromise. A stroke of genius with which the young empress earns the right to reign with her husband, and the unconditional love of her subjects. Despite the constant and fierce criticism of the mother-in-law, the archduchess Sofia (Désirée Nosbusch).
Sofia’s death and Fanny’s hanging
However, a new danger is lurking: Lajos take advantage of the trip of Francesco Giuseppe to try to kill him again. Not only does the plan fail, but to lose his life, at the hands of Andrassy, it is precisely Lajos. Furthermore, in the struggle, the Count notices the pendant he had already seen around the neck of Fanny, and understands that there is a close bond between the two.
At court instead lto little Sofia is struck down by a very high fever. Inconsolable, Sissi is unable to react. He feels guilty because the idea of taking his daughters on the journey was his. Destroyed, in a terrible moment of despair she entrusts the education of Gisella to the grandmother Sofia, to then retire in solitude.
But not before go to jail to see Fanny, meanwhile arrested and sentenced to death. But there is nothing he can do for her, just one last friendly conversation.
Also Francesco Giuseppe he is overwhelmed by mourning. And with Sissi the distance now seems unbridgeable. Will the imperial couple be able to recover? We will find out only in the second chapter.
Sissi, sad princess like Lady Diana
Catapulted into reality very far from the familiar ones, Sissi And Diana they have always been two mirror figures. Both forced into the rigid shoes of the role, with the court rules to follow and reprimands them if disobedient. A similar fate from caged birds, however, animated by an overwhelming force towards freedom. With different but still disastrous results.
