Jannik Sinner in Carlos Alcaraz’s half, in a semi-final that could be worth the number two in the world. The Italian and the Spaniard, the two great rivals of the present and above all the future, ended up in the same half of the Indian Wells draw, after the draw of the first Masters 1000 in California, exactly as happened last year, when Alcaraz won. World number one Novak Djokovic is therefore on the other side and, if everything goes as it should, he will have the Melbourne finalist, number four Daniil Medvedev, in the semi-final.

And just like in Australia, in Sinner’s fourth there will be Andrey Rublev, fresh from his outburst in Dubai with the disqualification for insulting the line judge, while Alcaraz in the quarterfinals will face, once again, against Alexander Zverev, who defeated the Spaniard in Melbourne. In the round of 16 there will be, for Sinner, a not bad loose cannon like Ben Shelton, who didn’t start the year in a particularly great way but who with his left-handed serve is always to be feared. The Italian number one in the third round should be the German Jan-Lennard Struff.

Sinner will make his debut in the second round (he has a bye in the first) against one of Kokkinakis or Giron. Rafael Nadal, who officially returns to competition after Brisbane, will debut against Milos Raonic, in a somewhat vintage first round, and in the second round, in case of victory, he will have Holger Rune. Djokovic will have a qualifier or Vukic, but the pairing between Humbert and Hurkacz between the round of 16 and the quarterfinals is not among the easiest.

Alcaraz could have his debut against Matteo Arnaldi, if the Italian manages to beat Van Assche in the first round. As for the other Italians, Lorenzo Musetti, after the bye in the first round, will face one of Denis Shapovalov or Van De Zandschulp, the wild card Fabio Fognini will debut against Zapata Miralles, Flavio Cobolli will start from Carballes Baena and then have, in the possible second turn, Daniil Medvedev, while Sonego will immediately have Kecmanovic.
