There is no six without seven. This could change the history of Jannik Sinner’s matches and victories against Alex De Minaur. Sinner once again passes the Australian, beating him 7-5 6-4 and wins the ATP 500 in Rotterdam, the 12th title of his young career. Why wait if you can get everything right away? Sinner will be number 3 in the world when the ATP rankings are updated tomorrow, without waiting for Medvedev’s points to expire in Doha on 26 February. Jannik remains undefeated since the ATP Finals in Turin, collecting victory number 202 in his career and the 15th in a row. But the whole match was an almost ferocious battle.

THE MATCH

In the first set, in which the South Tyrolean managed to move on to the fifth set point after a first set with a few too many errors and the first ones less effective than usual. Ahead by a break for almost the entire first set, Vagnozzi’s student made a comeback in the 10th game when he served for the set, wasting four opportunities. But the granite character of the boy from the mountains was able to turn the situation around again and take the serve from De Minaur immediately afterwards, taking a one set lead at 7-5. The Australian returns to the court with clear ideas, perhaps he has never felt so close to his rival, he always makes Jannik play one more ball and always on the run, and in the fourth game he has two break chances. Sinner denies him and in turn, in the 5th game he breaks his serve, taking the lead to 3-2. Today Sinner serves just over 50 percent of firsts on the pitch and this doesn’t help him: De Minaur’s counterbreak arrives immediately which brings the situation back into balance, at 3-3. Same script: Damon doesn’t consolidate and offers Sinner the opportunity to take a break ahead again and consolidate for 5-3. When he serves for the match he gets a 15 from the next 9 in the world, then finishes coldly. Game, set and match Sinner.
