UEFA has named Luis Sinisterra Talent of the Year in the Conference League on Friday. The attacker, like four other Feyenoord players, is part of the best team of this season in the new club tournament.
The 22-year-old Sinisterra has scored eleven goals and seven assists in eighteen official matches (including qualifying matches) in the Conference League. The winger had a starting place in every match and only did not participate in the final group match with Maccabi Haifa.
The prolific Sinisterra is not only the best Conference League player under 23, but also deserves a spot on the Team of the Year. The same applies to defenders Lutsharel Geertruida, Gernot Trauner and Tyrell Malacia and striker Cyriel Dessers, making Feyenoord purveyor to the team.
AS Roma, which was 1-0 too strong for Feyenoord in the final on Wednesday evening, has four players in the best team of the season with goalkeeper Rui Patrício and Chris Smalling, Lorenzo Pellegrini and Tammy Abraham. The other positions are filled by Dimitri Payet (Olympique Marseille) and Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall (Leicester City).
AS Roma captain Pellegrini has been named Conference League Player of the Year. According to UEFA, tastemaker Payet (Olympique Marseille) scored the most beautiful goal during the first edition of the Conference League. The Frenchman shot the ball brilliantly into the corner from a great distance.
Sinisterra finished in third place in that election with his beautiful volley in the away match against FK Partizan (2-5) in the eighth finals. The second place goes to Vitesse defender Maximilian Wittek, who took a cross from Eli Dasa in one go in the away game against AS Roma and outwitted Patrício.
