butterflies in the stomach
Since the end of last year, a little butterfly sparkles when Rosalía puts on her typical grin. But not only as rhinestones on her front teeth, but also on her album cover and various pieces of clothing it flutters mightily. in one Video from the lyrics platform Genius on her song “Saoko”, the artist explains that butterflies, as a symbol of transformation, have found their way into her new album, which she describes as her most personal to date.
The fact that Rosalía does not want to commit herself became evident with her reggaeton hit at the latest “Con Altura” sure, which she recorded with Latin pop star J Balvin. The singer, who first became known for her avant-garde interpretations of traditional flamenco singing, now dedicates her new album “Motomami” to bachata from the Dominican Republic, for example, in the track she created together with The Weeknd “La Fama”or uses jazz sequences as in “Saoko”.
Rosalía and her biker gang
Rosalía’s transformation can also be seen in her music videos. In the video too “Di Mi Nombre”, a single from Rosalía’s second album “El Mal Querer”, we see her dancing alone through a strangely girlish apartment alongside a few shadowy, creepy figures. The album is based on the “Roman de Flamenca”, a story from the 13th century in which the protagonist is held prisoner in a tower by her husband, among other things.
Her character in the music video for the reggaeton track “Saoko” wouldn’t put up with that at all. As a member of an intrepid biker gang, she and her friends race across the Podilskyi Bridge in Kyiv while performing outrageous stunts. Recorded in June last year, the video celebrates the independence of the “motomami”, a woman who can be both “moto”, tough, and “mami”, fragile. The styling by Samantha Burkhart shows a lot of skin and works with iconic garments such as a white vintage top by Jean Paul Gaultier, which Christina Aguilera also posed in.
Beautiful secret weapons
Rosalía’s nails, her “uñas”, are now so well known that they have their own fan account on Instagram, dedicated exclusively to their long claws. For the artist, there is nothing more feminine than long nails, like her in a Video for American Vogue explains: “Long nails, for me, are a beauty secret. […] For me it is a radically feminine form. Because it’s very beautiful aesthetically, but they’re also a weapon.”
In her video for “Aute Cuture” we see that her nails are also used for defense. The huge, golden claws were designed by nail design superstar Juan Alvear, who has already turned the nails of Charli XCX and Julia Fox into abstract works of art.
“Aute Cuture” was also the inspiration for a makeup line that Rosalía launched together with the cosmetics company MAC. In addition to the matching lipsticks and eye shadows, you can imitate her crazy nail designs with nail polishes and rhinestones.
