Iskelmä singer Markus, real name Markku Tranberg, has died. Radio Musa reports about it on its own Facebook– account.

Radio Musa’s article says that Tranberg will be missed by a large group of friends and fans.

His career began at the turn of the 1960s and 1970s, accompanied by numerous hits. Iskelmätähti is remembered for songs The last spring, Heart joined heart and If you are still free.

Tranberg sang in the 2010s If you are still free – a new version of the song, which was his last recording.

– With the success of Iskelmä, Markus moved to Tampere, from where it was easy to go to gigs in different parts of southern and central Finland. Tranberg told Iltalehti about his health condition in 2014. At that time, major surgeries saved his ability to walk.

– Now I’ve been sober for three years, but I could have drank less at one time in my life. Especially the 1980s and 1990s were quite humid, the whole band got drunk. Only the driver always drank whiskey.

Tranberg had no children. In 2014, he said that he lives in cohabitation with his female friend who works as a waitress in Tampere.
