Singer María Jiménez dies at 73

The world of Spanish music mourns the loss of one of its most iconic artists. María Jiménez passed away at dawn this Thursday at the age of 73, as reported by his family in a statement sent to Europa Press.

“With deep sadness and pain in our hearts, we say goodbye to María Jiménez today, a woman loved and respected for her unwavering commitment to her family, friends, and admirers. An indomitable spirit, an overwhelming personality, a strong and courageous woman who fought against all adversities beyond what is imaginable”, Alejandro Jiménez, his son, has assured in the aforementioned statement.

“He worked tirelessly to leave a musical legacy and an imprint of the gender-based violence that he defended day by day. Always with humility ahead and the truth coming out uncensored from his lips,” his son stressed, emphasizing that he shared “his passion for life” with all its surroundings “in abundance and day by day”.

“yese last great diva leaves us, and a new star becomes part of the firmament, with an intense shine. Without a doubt, she will be deeply missed, she will be greatly missed by us, her family, friends and fans, but her legacy will live forever”, Alejandro Jiménez has also pointed out.

Jiménez leaves a wide artistic legacy of more than almost 50 years of professional career. Since 1986, the artist has published a total of 18 albums, in addition to participating in series and movies such as ‘Life is short’, ‘Hostal Royal Manzanares’, ‘All men are equal’, ‘Ja me maten!’, ‘Yo, puta’ and ‘Los mánagers’, among others.

In addition to being recognized in 2022 with the Gold Medal for Merit in Fine Arts, awarded by the Ministry of Culture, Jiménez also played an important role in the world of television. The artist presented ‘Bienaventurados’ on Canal Sur between 2006 and 2007, as well as being a jury member for the third edition of ‘Se llama copla’.

The singer was also a contestant on ‘Aventura en África’, the fourth and last edition of the current ‘Survivientes’ on Antena 3, becoming the fourth expelled by the audience.

In addition, Jiménez has been a guest on many formats such as ‘Mi casa es la tuya’, ‘Deluxe’, ‘El hormiguero’ and ‘Lazos de Sangre’, a TVE program in which she became the protagonist of one of its documentaries.
