Fans of the late Sinéad O’Connor are shocked after the mementos they left in the singer’s honor outside her former home were removed.
O’Connor died on July 26 at the age of 56. To express gratitude for the music but also sadness, fans left letters, flowers, notes and a wreath in front of her former home in Bray (County Wicklow in Ireland). The musician lived there on Montobello Strand Road for 15 years.
But now the tributes have disappeared, as fans are reporting on social media. “Where have all our memorabilia gone? What damage did these things cause?” asks a user.
The Irish Sun has since confirmed that the mementos will now be safely stored elsewhere. From a conversation with the neighbors it appears that the items were removed immediately. “I couldn’t believe how quickly it disappeared,” said a neighbor. “I thought it would take a long time, but it disappeared literally overnight.”
“I heard from someone who saw it that it was lovingly made. In a gentle way,” he added. “Perhaps there is a feeling that everyone who wanted to come to express their condolences to Sinead has been here and now it is time to end the matter.”
