Sinead O’Connor: goodbye forever?

First New York and Boston, and then back to Dublin and Cork, to her Irish homeland. The Spring Summer 2022 touring schedule features international live engagements for Sinead O Connor. The long-awaited album “No Veteran Dies Alone” should also be released this year.

Now the singer, 55, announces her farewell via Twitter: “Announcements that there will be performances this year or next year or ever again are wrong. There will never be anything for me to sing about again,” O’Connor wrote.

She is referring to the deep shock she felt at the death of her son Shane. The 17-year-old was found on the outskirts of Dublin in early January. After two previous attempts to take his own life, he finally got closer to his mother. But his condition remained unstable. Finally he disappeared from the hospital where he was under medical observation because of the risk of suicide.

O’Connor was devastated but always made her feelings public. Funeral service and burial took place in the circle of family members according to Hindu rituals in West Dublin. Local media reported that the mourners wore colorful clothing or robes, as requested by O’Connor. “My beautiful son, you light of my life, Nevi’im Nesta Ali Shane O’Connor decided today to put an end to his earthly struggles and is now with God,” O’Connor accompanied the requiem on Twitter. And further: “It was a very nice ceremony. Shane would have loved it. He always sang ‘Om. Shanti’…”

Sinead O’Connor had often struggled with her pop career. And announced an end to their music. “I’ve gotten older and tired,” she wrote last in June 2021. After another stroke of fate, a return now seems a long way off. Will it be goodbye forever?
