Was that the initial spark for the final spurt of the season? On Sunday, 1. FC Union in Mönchengladbach (1-0) scored three important points to qualify for the Champions League.
And in the way that the Irons already present themselves over long stretches of the season. Trainer Urs Fischer (57) was happy: “We didn’t have a phase in the game in which we let up.” Simply Union! Minimal strategy, best defense in the league and more and more records…
The team gave almost nothing at the back and used the best attack up front to score the winning goal from Sheraldo Becker (27). The maximum was once again brought out of the minimum.
And thanks to the strong defense around goalkeeper Frederik Rönnow (30) and defense boss Robin Bones (30) is Union’s best defense with only 31 goals conceded – ahead of Bayern (33)! The Köpenicker have already played eleven times to zero.
16 league wins – equaled club record
Also noteworthy: With 16 wins this season, Union has already equaled the club record – 17 have never been achieved in the Bundesliga. A new record beckons – it shouldn’t be the last this season!
► In the past two seasons, the Köpenickers have scored 50 goals each season. Currently there are 44!
► The Fischer-Elf have not gone bankrupt in the Alte Försterei for 20 Bundesliga games. Record is a series of 21 games without defeat! Saturday (3:30 p.m. / Sky) against Leverkusen this mark can be set.
► If the game against Bayer ends with three points, Union has 58 points. Record is 57 in the 2021/22 season!
► Seven away wins and 23 points are already new records – and two guest appearances (in Augsburg and Hoffenheim) are still to come, in which the Köpenickers are the favorites.
► The best final placement in the Bundesliga so far was 5th place in the previous season. So far, the Berliners have always improved in the football upper house: 11th, 7th and 5th!
