Borussia Dortmund received a Leipzig lesson in efficiency with the return of the Yellow Wall. After the 1: 4 against RB, BVB can probably write off the championship title. The reactions were accordingly.
The south stand, which was full for the first time in 763 days, welcomed Erling Haaland and the other BVB professionals after the frustrating 90 minutes with a few whistles, managing director Hans-Joachim Watzke watched the events with a petrified expression. Borussia Dortmund can probably write off the championship title after a 1: 4 (0: 2) against a ripped off RB Leipzig given the nine points behind. Once again Dortmund made too many mistakes.
“It was a 4-1 defeat, we conceded four goals. We started the game well and had the chance to take the lead. In the end, Reus crossed it that made the difference today: The Consistency in both penalty areas. Apart from the transition game, Leipzig didn’t get much out of the game, but we weren’t uncompromising enough,” said BVB coach Marco Rose.
And added relentlessly: “We made a few mistakes that were too easy. We did more in front of a full house and wanted to gain momentum for the final phase of the season. Now we’ve slowed ourselves down.”
“Then it’s 0:2 out of nowhere”
World champion Mats Hummels, who clearly addressed Dortmund’s problems after falling behind, made a similar statement: “We then got hectic, that’s our problem. We then wanted to force the deep balls. Then it’s 0: 2 out of nowhere at halftime. I know people will bang on Twitter, but it’s a realistic assessment and so do the people who are going to bang on now, but we also know that it wasn’t enough in the second half and we didn’t create enough of a goal threat .”
In front of 81,365 spectators in the Signal Iduna Park, which was sold out for the first time in two years, Konrad Laimer (21st/30th), Christopher Nkunku (57th) and Dani Olmo (86th) scored for Leipzig. Donyell Malen’s goal (84th) for BVB was far too little for the home side.
