Silver medal for Irene Schouten in team pursuit

Irene Schouten has a good feeling about the second day of the World Cup in Stavanger. The skater from Hoogkarspel finished second in the team pursuit with Antoinette Rijpma-de Jong and Marijke Groenewoud. The gold was for Canada.

The women’s team started quickly under the leadership of Rijpma-de Jong. The race did not go entirely according to the book, because Groenewoud faltered in the corner. Schouten eventually replaced Rijpma-de Jong in the lead and set a time of 3.02.29.

The two favourites, Japan and Canada, raced against each other in the final stage. The Canadians then dived just below the time of the Netherlands (3.01.81). The Japanese came in third.

Schouten thus took her second silver medal of the weekend, yesterday she was second in the three kilometers. She will be in action tomorrow at the mass start.
