Silver at the World Championships long track for breaststroke specialist Arno Kamminga

Arno Kamminga has won silver at the World Championships long track in Budapest. The 26-year-old Amsterdammer was second in the 100-meter breaststroke in a time of 58 seconds and 62 hundredths.

Kamminga was third in the middle, behind Nic Fink and Nicolo Martinengi. After a nerve-racking second part, Fink and Martinenghi seemed to be competing for the silver, but Kamminga passed the American in the final meters and tapped a fraction earlier.

The Italian Martinenghi grabbed the world title in 58.26 seconds and the bronze went to Fink in 58.65 seconds. The last Dutchman to win gold in the event was Marcel Wouda in 1998. At the Olympic Games in Tokyo, Kamminga also won silver in the 100m breaststroke.
