Silvamostort Kortemark permit suspension rejected again

Silvamostort Kortemark permit suspension rejected again

There have been protests against the expansion of the landfill for some time now. The action group Leefbaar Kortemark had previously lodged an urgent appeal against the extension of the permit by Minister of the Environment Zuhal Demir. But that too was rejected.

Under strict conditions, Minister Demir extended the permit by 25 years. According to the action committee, this opened the door to dumping heavily polluted PFAS soils.

Rejected again

Action group Climaxi and lawyer Isabelle Larmuseau demanded a suspension, but the court also swept that demand off the table. “The judge sees no deterioration and states that there are no reasons to intervene at this time. The Board also notes that PFAS levels upstream are higher than the PFAS levels downstream of the discharge,” says Demir’s cabinet.
