‘Sigrid Kaag’s failure should be a lesson for the media’

Rob Goossens, one of the most important faces of RTL Boulevard, believes that Sigrid Kaag’s ‘failure’ should be a lesson for the media. “She ended up in a spread bed.”

Now that the Rutte IV cabinet has fallen, Sigrid Kaag decides not to continue as D66 leader, but to disappear from the political scene. According to the politician, this has to do with the many threats to her address: “I think I should not ask this again from my family.” She previously alluded to a departure on the TV show College Tour.

Spread bed

Rob Goossens thinks that the media should scratch their heads after Kaag’s political ‘failure’. “Nobody has ever had such a spread bed in terms of media attention as Sigrid Kaag. Jinek who interrupted her summer holiday for the candidacy, NPO who wanted to make her salonfähig with a documentary costing hundreds of thousands”, he tweets.

He continues: “The contrast with the public reception could hardly have been greater – NL is too anarchic to be told it must love someone. So let the failure of Kaag’s political career not only be a lesson for her and D66, but also for the media.”

Anger for Rob

Rob provokes anger with his tweet. For example, one Robert says: “Especially from a reporter who works for RTL Boulevard, who has experienced the threats and murder of Peter R de Vries, you also expect a better exposure of that side of this story. Apparently too much to ask, which is a shame as this is a very big problem.”

Doesn’t he too easily overlook the fact that she was threatened and needed security? Rob: “Don’t let those sad threats cloud your view of her political career. Yes, those are unacceptable. And at the same time, her political career simply failed. It doesn’t get more beautiful than that.”

Guido agrees

Story boss Guido den Aantractor has his doubts about the Kaag exit. He tweets: “Usually media headlines with the extra trigger: What do we know about [dit onderwerp]? I don’t see that anywhere in terms of Sigrid Kaag and the threats. But what do we actually know about that? How bad was it? Was it only on socials? A torch at the door every day? Was she officially protected?”

Telegraaf columnist Marianne Zwagerman: “And why advertise your hitherto unknown children on TV if you are concerned about their safety?”

‘So transparent’

Guido thinks Kaag simply failed. “It is so transparent, and too many journalists are crying along. I am gloomy for our noble profession. Too often messages are no longer sent with a pen or microphone, but with a self-tied blindfold.”
