Significantly changed PSV beats Bodø/Glimt in a special entourage

PSV easily beat Bodø/Glimt. Despite quite a few changes in the starting line-up, it managed to win 2-1 in a rather boring game. What was not boring were the supporters in Bodø. The football experience of the Norwegians was downright special.

The match between Bodø/Glimt and PSV was rather soporific. Not surprising, because there wasn’t that much at stake. A great miracle had to happen if the people from Eindhoven were to become the group winner. That miracle also quickly became unreal with Arsenal’s early lead in London.

And so it was a 90 minute wait. It was more fun to watch the stands in the Akmyra Stadium than the field. What was striking was that the residents of Bodø are especially proud of their club. If you had to describe them in two words, it would be ‘civilized fanatic’. That was actually already clear when they turned up when they switched from an opera number to AC/DC.

Anyone driving around Bodø will soon realize that there is not much to do. Of course the nature is beautiful and with luck you can see the northern lights. But in terms of facilities there is very little to do.

And so the people enjoy the night out to the football. In the most fanatical profession there were no black-clad ultras, but all yellow-clad people with even a rainbow flag. Every song was followed by the whole stadium clapping along. When PSV took a 1-0 lead after 35 minutes, it seemed as if the entire stadium hadn’t noticed, the party continued unperturbed.

The fact that nothing was at stake was also reflected in PSV’s starting line-up. There were quite a few changes. Joël Drommel kept goal and there was also a spot for Ki-Jana Hoever, Fredrik Oppegard and Johan Bakayoko. Cody Gakpo and Xavi Simons started on the bench.

Ruud van Nistelrooij did not want to take any risks in the run-up to the top match against Ajax. Luuk de Jong was also substituted at half time.

Despite the fact that the field game was not too great, PSV had few problems with the Norwegians. It went out to 2-0 after the break. Bakayoko was the end station of a razor-sharp counter. For the supporters a reason to shout ‘boo’ in a very civilized way.

The home fans still got a deserved goal. In stoppage time it was Nino Zugelj who determined the final score at 2-1. In February, an intermediate round awaits against Juventus, Sevilla FC, RB Salzburg, Bayer Leverkusen, Shakhtar Donetsk, FC Barcelona or Sporting Portugal. But first the top match against Ajax awaits on Sunday.
