Significant increase in sexual misconduct in healthcare: ‘Relationship with patient is fornication, don’t do it’ | Healthy

The number of reports about healthcare providers exhibiting sexually inappropriate behavior towards patients has increased significantly. Last year the inspectorate received 330 reports, a third more than in 2022. Care for the disabled in particular stands out. And anyone who works in healthcare is at risk of sexual misconduct, whether intentional or unintentional. Even if the patient agrees to sexual contact, this is not okay, says Selini Roozen-Vlachos of the Health Care and Youth Inspectorate. “These types of relationships are always unequal.”
