There is an administrative green light to take further steps towards large-scale housing and nature development in the Gnephoek near Alphen aan de Rijn. Minister De Jonge (Interior and Kingdom Relations) announced this today in a letter to the House of Representatives. All parties involved (province of South Holland, municipality of Alphen aan de Rijn, Holland Rijnland region, Rijnland water board) are in agreement on this. In total, this involves the development of 5,500 homes and investments in nature, which also takes the water and soil system into account.

To support

In his letter to the House of Representatives, Minister De Jonge reports that he wants to support large housing construction locations such as the Gnephoek. He will design a new scheme for such projects in 2024. Resources available for housing construction can be used for this purpose. A decision on this will be made in the Spring Memorandum. He follows the advice of independent advisor Wim Kuiken.

Positive advice

The Provincial Executive of South Holland gives positive advice to the Provincial Council about the Gnephoek. In the advice, the Provincial Executive indicates that they are in favor of changing provincial spatial policy to make development in the Gnephoek possible. In addition, the Provincial Executive also provides insight into the necessary next steps for all parties involved. These steps are important conditions to enable the policy change. It is expected that the formal amendment procedure can be started in the summer.

An eye for nature and affordable living

In addition to the province and municipalities, the Holland Rijnland Water Board is also closely involved in this plan. Dijkgraaf Van de Sande calls the development an example for housing and nature in conjunction with the principle of water and soil guiding. In addition to an eye for nature, Gnephoek also has room for 60% affordable housing, including social and mid-range rentals, creating a liveable neighborhood.
