Shuffleboard champion Hettie Kleine sees Drenthe World Cup final coming

In a week’s time, 23 Drents will be at the World Shuffleboard Championships in Beneden-Leeuwen. Dutch champion Hettie Kleine from Hoogeveen is a contender for the world title and sees her biggest competitor in a fellow provincial.

Not only is Kleine the best in the country, she also won the cup competition. “2023 is a good shool year for me,” she says from De Vredenhorst in Hoogeveen. In the church building, Kleine ‘throws’ twenty bins during training this afternoon. “I try to get that during an evening of practice.”

“From our shul association (Aan De Bak, ed.) The four of us are going to the World Cup,” says Kleine. Her partner Jaap Huisman will also participate in the men’s competition in a week’s time. “I think Elly Mensen will be my biggest competitor again.”

People is by De Brikkenmikkers from Klazienaveen and was already the best in the world in 2013. “But this year I beat her in all competitions,” said Kleine sharply. “It could well be a Drenthe final.”
