Shownieuws urgently needs an authoritative TV expert like Tina Nijkamp, says the feared TV critic Victor Vlam. “You need those kinds of people to set the tone.”
Victor Vlam thinks that much more can be gained from Shownieuws than the makers are currently doing. He especially lacks an expert who is authoritative in the field of media and television. “Show news is not leading and they should be,” said the media expert, who worked at the program himself last summer.
Agenda setting
Things really need to change at Shownieuws, says Victor. “That program has a huge budget. Why is it not possible to set the agenda?”, he wonders in his podcast The Communicados.
Colleague Lars Duursma: “It sometimes strikes me that news items on Shownieuws.nl simply contain random tweets from one or another nobody are featured with five followers to show how happy people are with John de Mol’s latest program.”
Victor: “Yes, they do. Of course.”
Huge budget
Victor, who recently knocked out the school about alleged misconduct by Patty Brard at Shownieuws, thinks that Shownieuws needs a breath of fresh air. “They have a huge budget, which should be possible with the right people. I think the problem is that Evert Santegoeds and Bart Ettekoven are just not the right people for that.”
These two gentlemen are currently the most important experts of Shownieuws, but unsuitable, says Victor. “You can’t blame them either. They are both people who are editors-in-chief, or in Bart’s case, were, of a gossip magazine. That means they mainly specialize in the three Bs: babies, weddings and breakups.”
Tina to Show?
They simply have less to say about more relevant media topics, says Victor. “When it comes to that, Bart and Evert also know how to add something to it, so in itself I think: they are very strong in that area. But what they don’t have at Shownieuws is a good media interpreter.”
He continues: “Someone in the vein of Tina Nijkamp or Ron Vergouwen, for example, or of course Rob Goossens at RTL Boulevard, but well, he is clearly not available. But you need those kinds of people to ultimately set the tone.”
