“Yes, just before the performance it starts to itch a lot.” Petra Ploum is experiencing this for the first time. Her son has been playing with Corio for some time. Petra plays the covers in the marching drum and wind band. “We have practiced for this for so long. Hopefully we will win prizes”, says Petra Ploum just after the performance in the Parkstad Limburg Stadium. The results of the jury will then have to wait a few hours.
Gold
Erwin Sturtz: “You can compare the WMC with the Olympic Games, but then for drum and wind music. The whole world comes here. We have to compete against a band from Denmark and the United Kingdom. We are going for gold of course .”
Led Zeppelin
Drum and show bands play and march simultaneously within a sophisticated choreography. It is a well-known form in the United States. Corio’s performance is a musical medley with many tempo changes. Corio’s show is a solid mix with music from, among others, ZZ-top, The White Stripes and Led Zeppelin. Corio’s performance is well received. Two trophies go back to Heerlen. A gold medal and a silver timpani for the audience award.
