The deployment of private security guards at the expense of the municipality to combat violence in the catering industry divides the readers of DVHN. Slightly more than half of the participants disagree with the statement that municipalities should hire private security guards to curb nightlife violence
In Meppel, catering entrepreneurs are fed up with the nightlife violence. They want to hire private security guards to reduce the number of incidents. The municipality must contribute to this, is the plan.
Most participants in the statement do not think this is a good idea. “Not the municipality, but the catering industry should hire them themselves”, this respondent. “Less drinking and sniffing could also be an option. Behave,” this reader adds as unsolicited advice.
Another participant sees something in the pan whereby the municipality contributes to cover the costs of security guards. “The police don’t have enough resources, so you have to do something.” This reader also believes that good behavior starts elsewhere: ,,On the other hand, parents also have an expensive duty to teach their children standards of decency. And yes, 18 year olds are also children.”
The next participant thinks it’s bullshit that the community should pay for keeping the nightlife crowd in check. “In that case, all citizens will pay for the consequences of the annoying behavior of others.” In line with this, he also states: “I do think that football clubs should arrange and pay for their own security.”
