‘Should I be on TV more often?’

John de Mol asked Angela de Jong for tips when they had extensive contact with each other in 2018 about a possible television job. “He wondered if he should appear in the media more often.”

Angela de Jong was asked in 2018 to become a presenter on SBS 6. John de Mol wanted her to present the daily 6 Inside together with Albert Verlinde and Jan Versteegh. The gentlemen said yes, but Angela didn’t like it. And that’s a good thing, because that daily program subsequently flopped enormously.

John texted with Angela

It was a special time for Angela, because she had regular contact with media billionaire John. “I’m just wondering: when you once almost did that 6 Inside, then you had a lot of contact, I assume, with John?” Wilfred Genee asks her in the online column. In The Corridors.

Angela: “Uhhh, yes. Then he texted a few times, yes.”

Wilfred: “Oh, didn’t talk to each other personally?”

Angela: “Yes. We already had that before.”

Talpa boss asks for tips

Wilfred: “What was your impression then? How was your contact?”

Angela: “Yes, I had no idea why I was summoned to the office. Then you have, you know him too, the extremely charming John sitting at the table, who spreads syrup on all sides and of course thought it was ‘fantastic’ what I was doing and that I had to keep going. He also asked here and there for some tips on what to do next.”

What tips? “Whether he should show himself more often in the media or not.”

Good contact

Wilfred: “So you did have a good contact then, so to speak?”

Angela: “Yes. Then I was summoned to that office for an hour and a half.”

Wilfred: “What if he called again? From: ‘Let’s have a cup of coffee, Angela.’ What would you say then?”

Angela: “That depends a bit on what the approach is.”

Wilfred: “Just catch up and take the cold out of the air.”

No time

Angela is not interested in that. “Yes, they all do. They always want to drink coffee and explain everything, for example when I have written again that a certain programming is jaded and not very original. Then you get another app. I’ve been to all of them. Among the big three: Peter van der Vorst, John de Mol and Frans Klein.”

“The syrup is spread for one and a half hours, because ‘then your name has also come by for the presentation of Op1’. They always think that you aspire to that enormously, which I always find so beautiful. Then they also explain their big plans. I think they’re all nice people, but it takes me a lot of time and whether I like you or not, it doesn’t make much sense.”

Marco

Angela has canceled one channel boss, namely SBS 6 boss Marco Louwerens, also referred to as ‘director’ by the VI men. “Marco wanted to walk, that was in corona time. And then I wrote a silly column and then it was no longer necessary.”
