The 23-year-old athlete from Volendam was the first Dutch woman to hit the ball over 20 meters (20.24). She already took bronze at the World Championships in Eugene last month with a distance of 19.77 meters.

The world record shot put has been held by Russian Natalya Lisovskaya (22.63) since 1987. Schilder beat her great Portuguese competitor Auriol Dongmo (19.82). The Dutch Jorinde van Klinken surprised with a bronze medal (18.94).

Schilder is pushing her boundaries at breakneck speed. That bodes well for the 2024 Olympic Games in Paris, which she has set her sights on. She only broke through internationally this year and already took bronze at the World Indoor Championships in Belgrade in March.

Schilder outdid herself in Munich with her second throw in the final. She could hardly believe it and was so surprised that she apologized to her competitors.
