Shot at home in Borgerhout for the third time: “The chase lasted over the Dutch border.” † Antwerp

AntwerpFor the third time this month, a house in Zegepraalstraat in Borgerhout came under fire. This time there was also a chase by the police that led all the way to Essen. The Dutch police took the suspects into custody just across the border. The prosecutor’s office is now looking at whether the duo can be extradited to our country.

The residents of Zegpraalstraat do not seem to have been given a restful night’s sleep this week. In the night from Thursday to Friday, between 4 and 5 o’clock, another house was shelled. This time a house not far from the corner with Sterlingerstraat was the target. Fortunately, there is still a mobile camera in the street that immediately pointed the police in the right direction.

“Quite quickly, a vehicle with a Dutch number plate came into view.” says Lieselotte Claessens. An ANPRsearch later the car in question could be placed north of Antwerp. The driver appeared to be driving towards the Netherlands. “The police then gave chase and it continued as far as Essen. Just across the border with the Netherlands, the men were put aside and they could be arrested.”

This means that the Dutch police could arrest the suspects. An extradition therefore seems necessary. “We have applied for an investigating judge for ‘destruction of a fence’ and ‘weapons law infringements,’ Claessens continues. “The necessary procedural steps are now being taken to have the suspects extradited to us.”

Three attacks in one month

Earlier this week, on the night from Wednesday to Thursday, another house in the street came under fire at 3 a.m. Five bullet impacts could be counted in the facade of house number 17. The damage was not established until the next morning, after which the police were called in.

Whether there is a link to the attack earlier this month is still being investigated. Then a fireworks bomb exploded at house number 16. The front door and hallway of the home of kick boxer Jamal Ben Saddik’s parents was heavily damaged. A few cars were also damaged.
