Shortened Batibouw once again focused on sustainability and energy efficiency | Bati building

Bouwbeurs Batibouw opens its doors today at the Heysel in Brussels. Until Sunday, visitors can visit the many exhibitors in six palaces of Brussels Expo. Just like last year, the theme of the fair is sustainability and energy efficiency.

For the first time in several years there is again a ‘normal’ edition. Due to the corona pandemic, Batibouw was only able to organize a digital event in 2021. In 2022, the fair only took place in May due to the corona measures. With six days, this year’s construction fair will be three days shorter than last year. Up to and including 2019, it was also eleven days.

Batibouw also has fewer exhibitors. About 500 companies from the construction sector are making an appearance, compared to 600 last year and about 800 before the corona pandemic. As the reason for the decline, the organization points to the higher number of bankruptcies in the sector and the fact that some companies have started to focus more on promotion via social media and influencers after the corona pandemic.

Nevertheless, organizer Fisa is aiming for more visitors than last year. Just like this year, Fisa hoped for 150,000 visitors, but in the end only slightly more than 116,000 came across the floor.

Good example

Sustainability and energy efficiency are again central. The fair also tries to set a good example itself. For example, the thermostat goes down 2 degrees, single-use plastic is not welcome at the food and drink stands and the carpet is plastic-free and made without using water.

Batibouw will take place from Tuesday 14 to Sunday 19 March in Brussels Expo. The fair is open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., with nocturnes on Thursdays and Fridays until 9 p.m. A ticket costs 15 euros.
