A little carelessness and bang, it happened: the smartphone got wet. For iPhone users, there is a handy Water Eject feature that can help in this case.
Even if it says waterproof, it doesn’t mean that the smartphone is really waterproof. Liquid can penetrate through the open areas such as the connection or speaker. Even with little water contact, damage can occur that does not damage the iPhone, but impairs the user experience, for example due to muffled sound. If your phone comes in contact with water, there are many things you can do to get rid of the water as quickly as possible, and hopefully avoid long-term damage. However, most of them involve some effort for the user. But there is also a handy feature that only requires a few clicks: “Water Eject”. TECHBOOK shows how to get the application on your iPhone and what needs to be considered.
Install Water Eject on iPhone
“Water Eject” is a so-called shortcut that you can easily add.
- Open the page linked here on your iPhone
- At the bottom, tap Add Shortcut
- You can then find the application in the shortcut overview (can be found via the app overview, which you can call up by swiping left on the home screen)
- From the shortcut browser, tap Water Eject, then tap Begin Water Ejection. The iPhone then begins to vibrate.
Incidentally, after setup, you can also use the function by voice command via Siri.
How to get the most out of the Water Eject feature
During the process, it is best to hold your smartphone at a slight angle so that the water can drain easily from the speaker. You can repeat the incident multiple times, but don’t do it too often. This too could damage the speaker in the long run. Allow time between any repetitions. After the process, gently pat the affected area dry and set the iPhone aside for final drying.
Incidentally, there is also a comparable function for the Apple Watch, where it is called “Water Lock”.
Of course, “Water Eject” only helps to a limited extent if your iPhone has been completely submerged in water and the housing is full of water. In this case, there are a few emergency measures that should be followed.
