Shops generate more turnover due to higher prices

Shops book more turnover due to inflation. This is an increase of 5.5 percent in November compared to the same month a year earlier. The sales volume, on the other hand, decreased by 4 percent during the measurement period. This is reported by the Central Bureau of Statistics (CBS).

At so-called non-food companies, the average turnover grew by 4.7 percent. The sales volume showed a decrease of 3 percent. Clothing stores, recreational goods stores, drug stores, shoe and leather goods stores and DIY stores saw sales increase. Retail sales of consumer electronics and white goods, and shops selling furniture and home furnishings were down.

Turnover at food stores increased by an average of more than 8 percent. Here, too, fewer products were bought on average. Sales volume fell by more than 4 percent. Turnover at supermarkets increased by 9.5 percent. Specialty shops saw their turnover fall by an average of 0.6 percent.

Statistics Netherlands also reported that online sales at shops increased by 3.8 percent. Stores that sell both physically and online in particular showed strong turnover growth. Turnover at those stores grew by 9.6 percent. Online stores that only sell online saw turnover fall by 0.6 percent.
