Shopping at Aldi will be extremely expensive from Monday! Because: As the “Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung” (WAZ) reports, the discounter is increasing the prices.

Affected: especially dairy products, meat and sausage. For this, customers should churn in considerably more money – according to the WAZ up to 30 percent. Accordingly, the price for a pack of Aldi’s own butter would rise to more than two euros (current price: 1.65 euros).
The reason for the increase: the higher prices that Aldi has to pay its suppliers. “Since the beginning of the Ukraine war, there have been jumps in purchase prices that we have not experienced before,” said Aldi Nord communications chief Florian Scholbeck of the German Press Agency in Essen.
This is also due to the fact that feed, fertilizer and energy have become more expensive. This in turn would have felt the farmers in their livestock and the meat processing industry.
According to WAZ, Aldi Süd also feels compelled to raise prices. The increases vary depending on the product. The discounter is by no means alone in its approach – on the contrary. Because Germany’s consumers have to dig deeper into their pockets than before when shopping in other discounters and supermarkets.
Aldi already increased the prices for around 160 items two weeks ago, and a week later another 20 items went up. Competitors followed suit. Due to the situation on the world markets, “increasing sales prices in the entire industry (…) cannot always be avoided”, Edeka announced last week, for example.
In general, the discounter assumes that the purchase prices for Aldi will increase by 20 to 50 percent in the coming weeks. According to a recently published survey by the Ifo Institute, almost all German food retail companies are planning price increases.
