Shooters celebrate a strong finish

With the victories of Anna Janßen and Doreen Vennekamp and second place for Christian Reitz, the German shooters celebrated a strong finish at the World Cup finals in Cairo.

With the small caliber rifle, Janßen won the gold match with the last shot against the Indian Anjum Moudgil. “After the shot I was just incredibly relieved and happy,” said Janssen. European champion Doreen Vennekamp turned up the heat with the sport pistol. From last place in the final, she shot her way up after the first five and defended her title.

Rio Olympic champion Reitz also presented himself strongly in his special discipline rapid fire pistol. In the final against Tokyo Olympic champion Jean Quiquampoix from France, it was a duel at eye level. After five series, the Frenchman and Reitz each had 24 goals, which meant only one miss. With 32:32 it went into the last series, where Reitz had one more miss and had to console himself with second place.

“We were neck and neck until the end. In the last series I lost control after the shot. Of course that was a bit annoying because Jean only had three hits. But it was a ‘bomb finale’ and that’s why I’m satisfied without further ado,” said Reitz.
