Shock and tears, but especially angry neighbors after the Hoefplan flat fire: “Nuisance reported so often”

Wearing an oxygen mask, she was rescued from her apartment by three firefighters via the stairwell. Loes Konijn (68) lives right above the apartment where a fire broke out this afternoon. To her great sadness she has lost everything and that is, she says, the fault of her nuisance neighbor.

Around 2pm the flames beat out of the house on the third floor of the porch apartment to the Mesdaghan. And Loes also sees that the front of her living room is melting. “I thought that could only come from one person,” she says in front of the camera of NM and Alkmaar Central.

A police officer gave her a warm coat, because she was shaking from the shock and cold. She has lived in the Hoefplan district for more than twenty years. With great pleasure. Except for that neighbor.

“Since she has lived there, we have been bothered by noise at night, all kinds of scary figures pass by and they sometimes also stay overnight. Bicycles are also parked everywhere.” Other neighbors speak of ‘drug dealers’ who drive up and down at the flat and ‘various problems’ at the lady in question.

“My girlfriend literally lives next door and her rabbit was still inside”

Girl next door

The multiple fire trucks of the fire brigade, police and ambulances have not gone unnoticed by dozens of neighbours. All neighborhood children are also watching how the fire brigade inspects the houses via a cherry picker.

“My girlfriend literally lives next door and her rabbit was still inside. We were really scared,” said a girl next door. Watch here the interview with neighborhood children and Loes, who was just reading a newspaper when she saw smoke.

A spokesman for the Security Region says that the fire started in the kitchen of the apartment on the third floor. The fire was extinguished after a few hours. Four apartments have been officially declared uninhabitable, two due to fire damage and two due to the fire extinguishing water.

Response manager flat

Van Alckmaer confirms to NH and Alkmaar Central that several nuisance complaints have been received about (visits/friends of) the occupant of the apartment where the fire broke out. Because of privacy, they do not want to comment on the woman’s situation or any steps.

They just say that “progress talks” have taken place. “For now, we first want to know how this fire could have happened,” said one of the employees who was at Mesdaglaan today. He is constantly talking to sometimes vulnerable residents who are affected.

“We are busy arranging affected residents somewhere to stay. Some can happily sleep with relatives, for others we have to arrange something else.”

The police may be able to say more tomorrow about whether an investigation is also underway into the fire. In Hoefplan it certainly did not seem that the resident was arrested. She was housed elsewhere after the fire.
