Shishani and Miss Catharis on sunny Surfana and other tips for the weekend

Every week, NH’s Culture Club editors come up with three nightlife tips for the coming weekend; performances, events or other cultural events in the province that are not to be missed. This week you can enjoy the Surfana festival in the dunes of Bloemendaal, Douwe Bob in the living room during Jazz en de Walvis in Amsterdam and Kunstroute right through Sint Pancras.

Nightlife 1; Surfana in Bloemendaal

Surfing and many performances at the Surfana festival near the dunes and on the beach of Bloemendaal. One of the bands performing there is Shishani and Miss Catharsis. It is the band of the Amsterdam musician Shishani Vrankx. She combines the indie of Radiohead with the hip-hop of Lauren Hill and her own Namibian roots. Together with her band that consists only of women, she brings indie soul with a message, power to the minority. Also performances by Mathew Mole, Kim Churchill and Cloudsurfers. Nightlife tip 2; Art route Saint Pancras

The village of Sint Pancras will be dominated by art this weekend. In the village just north of Alkmaar, you can go for the annual Art Route Sint Pancras. Floral paintings, abstract glassware or sleek ironwork, Sint Pancras shows its most creative side. For example, there is art by the van Veen family, who have no fewer than 3 artists in their ranks. Art route Saint Pancras will be held on September 10 and 11.

Nightlife tip 3; Jazz and the Whale in Amsterdam

In the Eastern Docklands in Amsterdam, various residents make their living rooms available for the most special performances by jazz and pop musicians. In recent years, in addition to renowned jazz musicians, sounding names such as guitarist Harry Sacksioni and Spinvis could be admired in an intimate atmosphere. Top of the bill this time is singer-songwriter and former Eurovision participant Douwe Bob. In addition to Douwe Bob, jazz flutist Ronald Snijders, saxophonist Dick de Graaf and the Mexican/Amsterdam singer Fuensanta are among others in various living rooms.
