Radio presenter and 2016 Miss Finland Shirly Karvinen opened with her Instagram account how harsh private messages she receives on social media. He says he went through the private messages that came over the weekend.
The messages bark at Karvi, among other things, as “ugly Chinese no bodysuit”. And this is not the message from the hardest end. Karvinen talks about the messages in the stories section of Instagram.
Iltalehti reached out to Karvinen to comment on the messages he received. He says he usually doesn’t want to make room for nasty comments or highlight them.
– But at the same time, if the issue is not raised, I will inadvertently accept such a barking culture, Karvinen says.
– I think it is important to talk about the uglier side of Finland, because we are all human beings.
Weak moments
For Karvinen, who has worked in the public domain for years, such messages are not new.
– Even though I have somehow become obsessed with nasty comments over the years, there are still those weak moments when they get under the skin, he says.
Karvinen considers it important that during this time everyone would deal with their own bad feeling and learn to talk about things out loud.
– How important it is to deal with things instead of unraveling them in a harmful way – for example, by vomiting it all to strangers in a soma. We are people to each other, also in the world, Karvinen reminds.
He notes that most of the messages he receives are positive.
Karvinen has previously said in an interview with Iltalehti that he is used to people having an opinion about him.
– For example, during the Miss Year, people came to say that you are not so ugly. It’s special that people feel it’s acceptable to say that, Karvinen said.
