Jorge Sánchez had a very important role for Ajax against FC Emmen. The right-back scored a goal and provided an assist. Partly because of this, it became 3-1 in the Johan Cruijff Arena.
Knowing that PSV had beaten FC Volendam, Ajax knew it had to beat FC Emmen. The Drents, however, got the first big chance. Jeremy Antonisse sent Richairo Zivkovic (former Ajax) away. The striker was stopped by goalkeeper Geronimo Rulli. The team from Amsterdam then grabbed the visitors by the throat and did not let go.
First Jurrien Timber got two chances, first headed into the hands of goalkeeper Mickey van der Hart and then shot over. It was Jorge Sánchez who put Ajax ahead from a corner: 1-0. The Mexican was the declarant at the 2-0. This time Steven Bergwijn scored. In between, Edson Álvarez had taken a yellow card, so he is suspended against PSV next week.

After a few pinpricks from Ajax, Antonisse brought the tension back into the match. He worked a cross behind Rulli after a cross from Ole Romeny. Trainer John Heitinga was not satisfied and replaced Bergwijn for Brian Brobbey. The attacker tried to outwit Van der Hart from a distance, without success.
Dusan Tadic brought Ajax to a safe haven in the final phase. Francisco Conceição came in and gave Tadic: 3-1. The position did not change. With the victory, Ajax takes second place from PSV again. That is also the next opponent of the team from Amsterdam. In any case, Álvarez will not be there, because of his yellow card.
Setup Ajax: Rulli; Sanchez, Timber, Álvarez, Hato (Baas/70); Grillitsch, Taylor (Conceicao/70), Klaassen (Vos/89); Berghuis, Tadic, Bergwijn (Brobbey/61)
