Caroline van der Plas causes anger in the editorial staff of the AD. Because she has last minute canceled an interview with the newspaper and they really don’t think that is possible. “These are reader questions!”

The elections are approaching and so we see the party leaders appearing everywhere and nowhere. Yet sometimes it can also be a good thing not to show yourself. For example, Geert Wilders, the largest party in the polls, is very sparing with media appearances and, for example, also refuses a critical interview in Nieuwsuur. Caroline van der Plas doesn’t do everything either.

Last minute

The BBB leader canceled her party leader interview with the AD and the affiliated regional titles at the last minute and they are so angry about it that they have devoted an article to it. “Caroline van der Plas cancels party leader interview, will not answer reader questions,” reads the headline of the piece.

Political reporter Elodie Verweij: “In the run-up to the elections, this site interviews the party leaders of the seven largest parties, both in the podcast Politiek Dichtbij and in the newspaper. The interview with BBB leader Caroline van der Plas was confirmed almost a month and a half ago by the party’s communications department.”

Another appointment

Last Friday, Caroline van der Plas’ party suddenly announced that it would ‘unfortunately’ not be possible to come by, because ‘another appointment has come up’. “Van der Plas is thus passing up the opportunity to answer questions from AD readers.”

Questions that the AD wanted to put to her include: ‘Just tell your honest story about what you will mean for the Netherlands if you join the government. Please stop pointing fingers at the other’, and: ‘Can you guarantee that you will guarantee the rule of law at all times and that we will not have Trumpian effects in the Netherlands?’”

Unanswered

Elodie finds it very bad that Caroline does not want to answer that. “The questions of these readers will remain unanswered. The BBB leader prefers a working visit to the ammunition depot in Staphorst.”

“This site has suggested several times that the interview be rescheduled and was requested to contact the spokesperson. The spokesperson never responded to the requests.”
