In a post on Facebook on June 1, 2022, Sheryl Sandberg said announcement that she was going to leave Meta, after 14 years with the group. She was COO of Meta for many years and certainly one of Mark Zuckerberg’s most loyal collaborators.
The end of the adventure for Sheryl Sandberg
Sheryl Sandberg therefore plans to resign from her position and leave the company this fall. She will be replaced by Javier Olivan, the current chief growth officer and vice president of products and infrastructure at Meta. He will therefore be the future COO, a choice confirmed by CEO Mark Zuckerberg on his own Facebook account.

Mark Zuckerberg’s collaborator looked back on these 14 years spent with Meta. She explains “this team is made up of exceptionally talented people who have poured their hearts and minds into creating products that have had a profound impact on the world”.
The COO joined Facebook in 2008 and in her post she also reflected on her meeting with Mark Zuckerberg: “When I first met Mark, I wasn’t really looking for a new job and I could never have predicted how life-changing this encounter would be”.
Sheryl Sandberg explains to have been convinced by the conviction and the futuristic vision by Mark Zuckerberg. She says that sitting with Mark for those 14 years “has been the honor and privilege of a lifetime. He is a true visionary and caring leader.”.
The COO looks back on its fight for women
Sheryl Sandberg was 38 when she started working for Facebook. She has gone through many crises within the group and has risen to great challenges. She also tells how she made the women’s cause a real fight within his own company.
She has spoken often to speak about the challenges women face in the workplace. She explains that she always wanted “to make it a little easier for others and help more women believe that they can and should lead”.
The COO is aware that “the products we make have a huge impact on people’s lives”. She therefore believes that Facebook has a responsibility to design them in a way that protects privacy and to ensure the safety of the community and specifies that “The extraordinary team at Meta will continue to work tirelessly to meet these challenges and continue to improve our business and our community”.
She concludes her publication by explaining that she is particularly proud that this is a company where a very large number of women and people of diverse origins were able to rise through the ranks and become leaders.
