The reception locations for Ukrainians in Andijk and Opperdoes will be extended by two years. The rental contracts have been extended by the municipality until 2026. About 469 Ukrainians are currently being accommodated in Medemblik.
Initially the intention was for the refugees to arrive there early March 2024 would remain, but because the end of the war is not yet in sight, the government has decided to continue the reception of Ukrainians until 2026.
The municipality of Medemblik has therefore decided to extend the rental contracts with the landlords of the reception locations. “Unfortunately, the war in Ukraine is still ongoing. As a result, Ukrainian refugees cannot yet safely return to their home country,” a spokesperson said. This has already been arranged in Opperdoes, an agreement is expected soon in Andijk.

There are currently two reception locations in the municipality. 72 Ukrainians reside in the former residential care complex Almere (Opperdoes) and 97 in the nursing home Sorghvliet (Andijk). In addition, more than 300 Ukrainians are accommodated with host families.
