Sheffield United ends Aston Villa series, AC Milan suffers damage | Foreign football

Aston Villa’s impressive run in its own stadium has come to an end. The club from Birmingham won no fewer than fifteen times at Villa Park after the 4-2 defeat against Arsenal on February 18, but this time drew 1-1 against Sheffield United.

That was striking, considering that Sheffield United was in last place in the Premier League until Friday. On a pass from Gustavo Hamer (ex-Feyenoord, FC Dordrecht and PEC Zwolle), Cameron Archer even seemed to score 3 points just before the end, but deep into injury time Nicolò Zaniolo prevented a painful loss.

Aston Villa could have taken the lead with a win, but is now on 39 points. Leader Arsenal has the same number of points, but a better goal difference. Coach Mikel Arteta’s team will meet Liverpool on Saturday, which has 38 points.

AC Milan is falling further behind

AC Milan is in danger of falling even further behind leaders Internazionale and Juventus in Serie A. Coach Stefano Pioli’s team did not get further than a draw at the bottom of Salernitana: 2-2. AC Milan, as number 3, is now 8 points behind Inter and 4 behind Juventus. Both clubs will be in action on Saturday.

Milan, with Dutch international Tijjani Reijndes in the starting line-up, took the lead after more than fifteen minutes of play. Fikayo Tomori headed home from close range. Salernitana hit back shortly before halftime, also from a header from the Argentinian Federico Fazio.

Goalkeeper Mike Maignan then took credit for Milan’s second goal. The Frenchman misjudged Antonio Candreva’s shot from distance in the 63rd minute: 2-1. Substitute Luka Jovic prevented Milan from defeat in the 90th minute. Emotions were still running high in injury time, with a riot on the sideline in which Salernitana’s Vincenzo Fiorillo was sent off.

Lazio have achieved only their second win in the past seven games. The team from Rome won 2-0 when they visited low-ranked Empoli. Mattéo Guendouzi (before half-time) and Mattia Zaccagni (after half-time) scored for Lazio. The disappointment was the failure of striker Ciro Immobile and midfielder Luis Alberto in the first half. Lazio climbs to ninth place in Serie A with the victory.
