Mena Suvari became the Lolita icon of modern cinema with “American Beauty”, Alyson Hannigan jumped from cult scary comedy “Buffy” to cult sitcom “How I Met Your Mother” and Jennifer Coolidge aka Stifler’s Mom had to, well, forced a career as a milf make of the century. But otherwise? Although most of the actors from “American Pie” found other strong film productions after the teen film revival, only a few were granted a great career.
With one exception: Natasha Lyonne, the actress who played Jessica. She is still a renowned actress and producer today and has received numerous awards. First praise came before American Pie for her performance in Woody Allen’s comedy Everybody Says I Love You (1996), while the real breakthrough is arguably Beverly Hills (1998), where she was such an authentic Teen brat acts outplaying all the men brought to the fore by the script.
Great success with “Orange Is The New Black”
After American Pie, Lyonne starred in films such as Because I’m a Girl (1999), Kate & Leopold (2001) and The Hollywood Conspiracy (2006). Above all, her commitment to television with small roles in “Law & Order” and “Weeds” brought her success. The cast in the Netflix series “Orange Is the New Black” then attracted a lot of attention. In it she played the role of Nicky Nichols for 74 episodes and was nominated for an Emmy several times for her performance.
Lyonne is also a producer and has worked on various film and television projects. She produced the series “Russian Doll”, and also played the main role. The series has been a hit with critics and has also garnered a sizable audience. Lyonne was also nominated for an Emmy for this. In addition to projects in the theater, her dubbing voice is also in demand, for example for “Steven Universe” (Smoky Quartz) and “Big Mouth” (Suzette). For three episodes of The Simpsons in season 31, she voiced musician and club owner Sophie, who befriends Lisa. In the episode “Hail to the Teeth,” her character joins Lisa in a protest against the use of plastic straws.
By the way, Natasha Lyonne had her first role in a movie in “Heartburn” (1986) alongside Jack Nicholson and Meryl Streep. Most recently, she had a cameo in Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery last year.
