Shaving foam is a good cleaning product, you can use it for these five things | Living

Cleaning tipWith shaving foam you can do much more than remove stubble. It is a wonderful cleaning agent, says cleaning expert Marja Middeldorp. “And it also prevents an unsafe situation on the road.”

Now that the weather is colder, the windows in the car, but also your glasses, are fogging more quickly. “Dear Marja, I suffer from foggy glasses very quickly. Don’t you have a solution for that?” a reader asked. “Well, I have that,” says Marja Enthusiast. “I have to admit that fogged up car windows also happened to me this week. While I really know the trick against it very well. I should have just done it sooner, but it just hadn’t happened yet. But this afternoon I’m going to walk to the car with my can of shaving foam.”

According to the cleaning expert, shaving foam is perfect for preventing foggy windows. “You oil the windows. Then rub it with a microfiber cloth or other soft cloth until it shines. And then you can travel again very safely with your children or your dog.”

You can also clean the mirror in the bathroom this way. “There is nothing more annoying than a fogged up mirror. You want to see if the lipstick is on your lips and not on your nose.”

Preventing fogged up spectacle lenses

Until a few years ago, this was also the trick to prevent fogged glasses, but that is no longer the solution. “Nowadays, spectacle lenses often contain a special coating. Shaving foam is not good for this layer.”

Of course, the cleaning guru has another way to prevent fogged glasses. “To do this, fill a bowl with lukewarm water, certainly not too hot. You add a little liquid green soap to that. Place your glasses cloths in this and then let the mixture soak in for a while. This way you add some of the green soap to your glasses cloth. Then squeeze out the wipes and lay them out to dry. You will notice that from now on there will be less grease on your glasses and that the lenses will also fog up less quickly.”

Stains on fabric seats

Back to the car. “Sometimes you have those stains on the chair that have been there for a while. In many cases you can get rid of it with a little shaving foam, but always try it first on a small area that is not in sight. That’s really important. You put a little shaving cream on the stain, dabbing, not scrubbing. You let that soak in for a moment. You can then wipe it off with lukewarm water. If necessary, you can add a drop of dishwashing liquid, because shaving foam contains some grease. You will automatically feel this in the upholstery. This doesn’t just work on car seats. You can also remove stains from your fabric chairs in this way.”

And while we are still working on the car, Marja continues. “Then immediately remove the leaves from your windshield. There’s nothing more annoying than leaves getting stuck under your windshield wiper. Then you can still have a shiny window, but it still remains dangerous.”

Stripe on the wall

Do you have a line on the wall, for example because the chair has hit the wall? “Put a little shaving cream or white toothpaste on a washcloth and wipe it on the wall. Then pat it dry. Don’t rub too hard and your stain will be gone.”

Shaving foam against pimples

Shaving foam is not only a nice cleaning product, it also helps very well against pimples, Marja knows from experience. “I only have to look at mayonnaise or I already have a pimple on my head. Apply a little foam and a day later the pimple will disappear. How is that possible? The foam contains alum, a type of baking soda with an anti-bacterial effect. In the past, men used a block of alum when they cut themselves while shaving. It staunches the blood, but also ensures that you don’t get an infection.”
