The trial of the 65-year-old businesswoman who caused the death of a 52-year-old is over. The incident occurred in Viareggio in September 2024
Cinzia Dal Pino, the 65-year-old seaside worker, who on 8 September 2024 in Viareggio killed the thief who had stolen her bag, was sentenced to 18 years in prison for voluntary homicide. The accused followed him and hit him with her car, an SUV, causing his death and took the bag back. Dal Pino’s lawyers argued in the trial that there was a negligent excess of self-defense. Images taken by a camera showed the sequence of the collision while the victim, Noureddine Mezgui, known as Said, a 52-year-old Moroccan, was walking on the pavement with the stolen goods when he was hit several times by the car. The prosecution, represented by prosecutor Sara Polino, had asked for a life sentence. Dal Pino listened to the sentence in the courtroom of the Assize Court of Lucca accompanied by his daughter without showing any reactions. The Court established the expiation of the sentence of home detention.
