Sharper choices for better care: ‘Learn to say no, not every treatment is useful’

We really need to learn to say no to medical treatment. Not everything that is possible is the best for the patient, warns Sjaak Wijma of the National Health Care Institute. If doctors and patients do not choose more often whether it is better to skip a pill or surgery, the blunt ax threatens to have to go through the basic package. “Then it becomes: maternity care out, yes or no.”
