Shari Bossuyt takes a positive doping test, Aerts responds
In March, the West Flemish rider tested positive for the banned substance letrozole metabolite after the third stage in the Tour of Normandy. That is also the same means with which cyclo-cross rider Toon Aerts is suspended until February 14.
Minimal amount
It is a minimal amount, which is why she probably unknowingly took the banned substance. Her team placed her on non-active for the time being. Tomorrow at 10 am Bossuyt will give a press conference in Zwevegem together with her manager.
Open letter
On Twitter, Toon Aerts openly expresses support for Bossuyt in an open letter: I can well imagine what Shari is going through now. This shouldn’t happen! Another athlete, who is also human, who will go through a very deep valley with her whole family. Without having done anything wrong just like me and my family.”
Toon Aerts himself tested positive for the use of letrozole metabolite in January 2022. In December 2022, the 29-year-old cyclocross rider was suspended for two years. Bossuyt may now face the same fate. “I hope that Shari will soon find something to hold on to in her life,” Aerts encourages his fellow sufferer. “The long period that I have been working on the file, everything I have learned about procedures, letrozole and everything that comes with it, I will pass on to Shari so that hopefully she does not face the same fate as myself.”
“The life of myself and my family will never be the same again, let all this not be in vain, but let’s take action so that after Shari and myself there are no further victims,” concludes Aerts.
