Irish singer, songwriter and poet Shane MacGowan has died aged 65, as has his wife Victoria Mary Clarke emotional statement confirmed. Of course, many fans are now wondering why MacGowan died.
An official cause of death has not yet been given. It is no secret that MacGowan had been struggling with health problems for a long time. MacGowan was released from hospital just a few days ago after being treated there for five months for a potentially life-threatening and long-term illness of encephalitis. Such a disease causes the brain to swell. Clarke repeatedly shared pictures and health updates of her husband on social media.

On November 22, 2023, she celebrated his release: “Shane has been released from the hospital! We are deeply and forever grateful to the doctors, nurses and staff at St. Vincent’s. It is the best! And special thanks to Tom Creagh and Brian Corscadden for your help.”
Clarke also wrote about the fear of loss she felt. “But sometimes, when you love very deeply, you are faced with terrible fears of loss that can feel so great and devastating that you don’t know how to survive them and can’t imagine life without the person you love can imagine. In those moments when you stare into the abyss, you have the opportunity to expand your consciousness beyond the limits of your mind,” says Clarke.
MacGowan was known for decades of excessive drinking, which left him visually and physically scarred. The musician repeatedly made headlines because of his health. In 2015 he broke his pelvis while dancing and has been in a wheelchair ever since.
