shame announce new album FOOD FOR WORMS

shame have announced a new album. FOOD FOR WORMS, as the title is supposed to contain ten songs, will be released on February 24, 2023. It was recorded live and produced by Flood (U2, Nick Cave). The British post-punk band has already released a song from it. Hear and see the single “Fingers Of Steel” streaming here – the video directed by James Humby is all about social media and fake likes:

Shame singer Charlie Steen confidently says of the video: “Self-obsession, social media flagellation and death are on display in this Oscar-nominated performance. Nobody has ever made a video like this before and if you watch it you will see why. Imagine ‘Casablanca’ – but in color and better.”

The quintet has also announced a European tour that will also take them to Germany. Here are the dates:

  • March 26, 2023 – Munich – technical center
  • 03/27/2023 – Berlin – Festsaal Kreuzberg
  • 03/28/2023 – Hamburg – market hall
  • April 4th, 2023 – Cologne – Gloria

shame released their debut album SONGS OF PRAISE in January 2018. We voted it record of the week, giving it a whopping six out of six stars. ME author Dominik Sliskovic wrote, among other things: “Shame sparks a long overdue spark of hope in UK punk. With bands like this, the belief in musical rebellion will never end.” In our annual review, ME editor Oliver Götz summed up the record, which made it to number 31 on our list of the 50 best albums of 2018: “The debut of Shame still likes it bursting with frustration and mockery, but there is too much constructive power, melodic splendor and a (disastrous in the medium term?) penchant for anthems in the South Londoners – this is definitely not punk, but post-punk. It in no way negates the future just because Shame live in a present.”

The successor DRUNK TANK PINK was released in January 2021. ME author Aida Baghernejad awarded five out of six stars and wrote: “Shame are the band that no one expected – but that we urgently needed.”
